At the time of this writing, the app shows that it’s a new moon with the waxing crescent and quarter coming in the next 11 days. Google Assistant and Google Now are useful for so many things. As it turns out, moon phases is one of them. You simply ask Google Assistant about moon phases, eclipses, predictions, and other stuff. The app handles most, if not all of those requests with aplomb. It won’t give you the in-depth knowledge of other moon phase apps or moon calendar apps. However, it’s great if you just want to check it out on occasion. It’s also totally free and available on almost every Android device.

Bonus: Add a moon calendar to Google Calendar

Price: Free

Why look at moon calendar apps when you can make one yourself? Google Calendar has a bunch of calendars add-ons. You can add them at your leisure. Some of the options include religious calendars, holidays, sports and other stuff. That includes a moon phase calendar. It should be fairly easy to add. Head to the Google Calendar website (it’s easier there). From there, click the cogwheel toward the top of the page and enter the Settings. On the left margin there is an Add Calendar option. Click that, and then click Browse Calendars of Interest. Toward the bottom, you can see Phases of the Moon. Tick the empty box to add it to your calendar. We’ve seen reports that this does and doesn’t work with the mobile version of Google Calendar so your mileage may vary. However, we tested it with the web version on desktop and it worked there for as as recently as November 2020.
